The two major political parties in the United States, the Republicans and the Democrats, have created a monopoly on American politics and this MUST be ended. From the local level on up they have created a monopoly by imposing restrictive ballot access laws across our nation. Currently it takes approximately 675,000 legitimate petition signatures of registered voters for a party to be listed on the ballot in each of the 50 states, although some states, Oklahoma for example, have legislation pending that would lower the requirement for that particular state. To further complicate the matter, the petition signatures must be collected within a predefined time frame. In most cases within 180 days of the general election for which the party wishes to qualify. And if a party does gain ballot access in a particular state they usually must garner at least 5 percent of the total votes cast in the most recent gubernatorial race for that state in order to remain on the ballot in the next general election. If the party doesn't meet that requirement, they must go through the petition process again. These ridiculously cumbersome requirements do nothing more than deny voters a true choice, thereby cementing the two party monopoly. My goal is to end their monopoly.
Very soon I will be launching a new political organization with the goal of becoming a recognized political party fielding candidates in races all across the nation INCLUDING a presidential candidate in 2012.
It CAN be done. How? Ahhhh! Elementary my dear reader. By circumnavigating the very laws which are designed to keep us off the ballot. Not breaking the laws mind you. Just using them to our advantage.
As previously stated, most of the laws require that all petitions be signed by registered voters within a certain restrictive period of time. None of the laws however, say a word about signature pledges. My plan is to recruit volunteers for each state and for each district within each state who will be responsible for gathering signature pledges, commitments by registered voters to later sign the petition. When the time period for gathering the actual signatures begins, the volunteers will handle that as well. In this manner we are not wasting time trying to persuade citizens to sign the petition once the allowed period begins.
Imagine the surprise of the established parties if we are able to pull this off. Suddenly, as if overnight, presenting voters with a third, viable option in virtually every district in the United States. Every Senate and House race, every Governors race.
Just as importantly though are the multitude of state legislature races across the land. In order to truly end the two party monopoly we have to change the laws at the state level. This can only be accomplished by electing candidates who are NOT Republican or Democrat.
